MIAMI BEACH – The first stop for the fashion set at Art Basel Miami Beach last night was hip luxury Miami boutique the Webster, where Valentino celebrated its Pop Pois collection with Interview magazine. Waiters handed out colorful cake pops, while Owen Wilson chatted with Peter Brant on the rooftop, and Martha Stewart made a dazzling entrance in a sequined jacket. “Those are Belvedere!” remarked Stewart at the bar. “Maybe they’re making Caipirinhas,” she said, forgetting that those are made with Cachaça, not vodka.
We ventured across town to the Design District, where a sea of guests in black gathered as W magazine and Dior Homme fêted the menswear label’s new boutique with the premiere of “Can I Make Music Fly?” the film Dior Homme commissioned legendary photographer Bruce Weber to create. “It was so much fun,” said the dashing violinist Charlie Siem about starring in Weber’s black and white film. “To work with an artist like Bruce, it’s always a pleasure.”
The crowd, which included model Hilary Rhoda and fashion designer Joseph Altuzarra, was impressed with Weber’s work. “Wow,” said producer Pharrell Williams while the film played. “It was shot well.”
Back on Miami Beach, the Swedes took over the Raleigh during the MOCA Beach Party. Lykke Li, Andrew Wyatt and PontusWinnberg of Miike Snow, and Björn Yttling of Peter Björn and John joined forces for a spectacular set that included “Animal” and closed down with the crowd — which included MOCA director Jeffrey Deitch and collector Jean Pigozzi— dancing to the whistle-filled anthem “Young Folks.”
Next, we headed to the Soho Beach House for Chanel and Art.sy’s Beachside Barbecue. After walking through the four checkpoints we made it inside the Tent, where Russell Simmons, Demi Moore, gallerist Tony Shafrazi, and photographer Ryan McGinley mingled and danced. Out on the sand, people didn’t mind getting their feet wet as they danced to Biggie and the Beatles under the moonlight.
There was no doubt that the toughest door of the night belonged to Le Baron. A-list partygoers like Williams and Moore were able to breeze past the ropes at the after-hours spot, while the rest had to wait in the Miami heat. Things got a little rowdy after that.
